How To Fix Screen Flickering Issues In Your Phone?

Screen flickering on the phone is a frustrating problem and can lead to browsing and video streaming issues. Fortunately, there are some easy fixes you can perform to get rid of flickering. First and foremost, try to reboot your phone, adjust the brightness settings, or update your software. Try other solutions, like entering Safe Mode or wiping the cache. You may need to reset application data, factory reset your phone, or visit a nearest trusted phone repair shop to fix screen flickering.

What Is Screen Flickering?

Screen flickering is the sudden visible fluctuation in brightness, colors, or clarity of your screen, making the display appear as if it is blinking, dimming, or stuttering. This will make the phone unusable, resulting in continuous or intermittent flickering.

Solutions To Troubleshoot Screen Flickering Issues In Phone

Solution 1: Restart Your Device

The simplest way to solve the flickering screen problem is to restart the device. Rebooting may clear out temporary glitches and reset the system, thus stopping the flickering.

  1. Tap the power button and hold it.
  2. Select “Restart” from the menu.
  3. Let your cell phone restart and see if the flickering stops.

Solution 2: Adjust Brightness Settings

Flicker support, combined with adaptive brightness, automatically switches the screen’s brightness based on light in the ambient environment. Enable or disable this, and you can determine if it causes a flicker.

  1. On your device, go to Settings > Display.
  2. Tap Brightness and turn off Adaptive Brightness.
  3. Adjust the brightness level manually depending on your needs.

Solution 3: Update Apps and Software

Old versions of apps or even software can cause several issues, such as screen flickering. Updating your system and apps is crucial for application compatibility and bug fixes.

  1. Tap on Settings, then select Software Update. Select ‘Download’ and Install to update.
  2. For applications, go to the Google Play Store, tap on Profile, and then Manage apps and devices. Update the apps available.

Solution 4: Safe Mode Enable

If the flicker is caused by a third-party app, boot up your phone in Safe Mode. All system apps start running on the phone, while only the default ones run in Safe Mode. If the flicker stops, you probably have installed an application causing this problem.

  1. Hold down the Power button until the Power Off appears.
  2. Hold down Power Off, wait until you see Safe Mode on the screen, and tap.
  3. Uninstall apps or updates you have recently installed to try to track the causes.

Solution 5: Wipe Cache Partition

Wiping the cache partition deletes all cache files to remove the screen flickering glitch. This will not delete any of your personal data on your phone.

  1. Power off your phone.
  2. Hold the Volume Up and Power button.
  3. Wait until you see the company logo.
  4. Select Wipe Cache Partition, use the volume buttons, and press the Power button to confirm.

Solution 6: Reset App Preferences

Resetting app preferences most often changes app permissions or disables some applications from running, which may be causing the screen to flicker. Resetting the app preferences will reset all the apps to their default settings, solving the problem.

  1. Open Settings and go to the  Apps.
  2. Tap on the three-dot menu, and from there, tap Reset app preferences.
  3. There should be a confirmation prompt when you do it, and after that’s confirmed, the flicker on the screen should stop.

Solution 7: Factory Reset (Ultimate Solution)

If nothing has worked out yet, you could try a factory reset. However, this action will remove all data on your cellphone, so ensure that you back up all the important files.

  1. Open Settings and go to General Management.
  2. Tap on Reset and choose Factory Data Reset.
  3. Pressing the “Reset” tap will redirect you to the page that shows more instructions.

Factory reset sends all of your device settings back to the default mode, clearing the screen flickering issues.

Causes of Screen Flickering

  • Software Glitches: Malfunctioning of the operating system or applications may cause screen flickering, mostly because of a missed update.
  • Display Settings: The adaptive brightness can sometimes cause flicker because it adjusts the screen based on the surrounding light.
  • Hardware Problems: Damage to the device hardware or loose internal parts may result in a malfunctioning display, requiring professional assistance.
  • Incompatible Apps: Certain applications, especially those not optimized for your phone, will sometimes interfere with the display.
  • Corrupted Cache Data: Sometimes, the cache data collected causes a malfunction in the systems, for example, flickering the screen.

Conclusion

Screen flicker in your phone should be easy to fix by taking targeted troubleshooting steps. Restarting the phone, adjusting brightness, and updating the software will solve most problems caused by software malfunctions. Try Safe Mode, clearing up the cache partition, Factory reset, and restarting app preferences to solve the setting problems. If these solutions don’t work, get professional help from a trusted phone repair provider.
