After falling short in their pursuit of Rangers for the SWPL title due to Laura Berry’s late goal in added-time, Celtic women managed to claim one trophy this weekend under Fran Alonso’s management by beating Boroughmuir Thistle to reach the semi-finals and advance further.
Hibernian stunned Hamilton Accies 8-0 as Crystal Thomas scored three hat-tricks alongside goals from Shannon McGregor, Eilidh Adams, and Krystyna Freda to secure their largest victory of the season.
Natalie Ross opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
Scottish Cup quarter-finals were completed over the weekend with several top flight sides earning impressive victories. Former SWPL champions Glasgow City fell to league leaders Rangers while Hibs beat Hamilton 8-0 thanks to Crystal Thomas scoring four hat-tricks and Krystyna Freda contributing two doubles.
Fran Alonso’s side got off to an ideal start as Natalie Ross headed home Shen Mengyu’s corner into the box after it was headed in by Shen Mengyu himself, however Molly Reeve denied them a second goal when she saved Nor Mustafa’s penalty attempt.
Boroughmuir Thistle were easily defeated by Rangers as Tess Middag, Megan Bell and Rio Hardy scored early. Eilidh Adams, Kirsty Howat and Laura Berry added goals after halftime while substitute Kit Loferski marked her comeback from injury with an outstanding finish – giving Edinburgh side hope of competing for league title contention and European Championship qualifying spots with four points behind current leaders but with one game in hand remaining.
Amy Gallacher put Celtic ahead in the second half.
Following a tough opening half, Fran Alonso’s side managed to seize control of the contest during the second period and dominate its outcome.
Jacyta Galabadaarachchi’s winding run through the centre of the park allowed Gallacher to fire off a shot that just missed, though Gallacher would soon score again on her night in front of goal.
Ross sent in a corner that Gibson couldn’t handle, and Gallacher leapt above the defence to nod it home. City attempted a counterattack, with Davidson firing an effort just over the bar and Emily Whelan forcing Kelsey Daugherty into making a brilliant save one-on-one from Kelsey Daugherty.

Celtic proved too strong, however. Gallacher scored their third goal in the 59th minute when she drilled a low shot into the bottom corner and Loferski made it four with her stunning strike from outpacing Kenzie Weir before lifting over Gibson with the outside of her boot for four more points in the 74th minute.
Kit Loferski added a third in the second half.
The winger scored her third goal by heading in a Jorian Baucom cross, before becoming instrumental again during the fourth – setting up Ellis Notley to score and herself scoring another goal before ending with herself at the back of the net for another fiver!
Celtic players will likely feel confident after this impressive performance and start to the season, where they have already won three games outright and appear poised to claim yet another championship crown.
Rangers also earned victory against Boroughmuir with Tess Middag, Megan Bell and Rio Hardy scoring early goals before Kirsty Howat, Laura Berry and Eilidh Austin (an 18-year-old defender) added further goals after halftime.
